Police are appealing for information following a fatal mobility scooter crash in New Plymouth last month.

Two people fell off a mobility scooter while riding on a footpath on South Rd in Blagdon on March 5.

"A man was transported to hospital by ambulance for assessment as a precaution, however, despite best efforts of emergency services, he sadly died in hospital on Sunday, March 8," Detective Sophie Gurnsey said.

The second person was uninjured.

Police said the deceased was Brian Dean Winther, 69, from Blagdon.

Gurnsey said police would continue to make inquiries into the circumstances of the crash and were now appealing for any witnesses of the crash to come forward, including a man and woman who were walking their dog and stopped to help before emergency services arrived.
