Two people have been killed in two separate single-vehicle crashes in Northland, bringing the Easter holiday road toll to three.
The first crash occurred in Kataia at the intersection of North Rd and Farrimond Pl at around 10.30pm, when emergency services received reports of a vehicle colliding with a tree.
"Sadly, the driver, the sole occupant, died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
A second crash involving a motorcycle was reported on State Highway 1 near the intersection with Waipu Gorge Rd at around 9.40am on Sunday.
"The rider died at the scene," police said.
The serious crash unit conducted a scene examination at the site of the Waipu crash, with inquiries into the circumstances of both crashes ongoing.
The death lifts the Easter holiday period road toll to two, after a fatal crash in Tasman on Friday afternoon.
The Easter holiday covers the period from 4pm on the Thursday to 6am on the Tuesday.
Police also responded to a "gathering of anti-social road users" in the early hours of the morning, with the intersection of State Highway 1 and Rongotea Rd in the Manawatū district temporarily blocked.
