A young person has charged with assault with a weapon following the death of a man in Wainuiomata yesterday.
Police were called to Wainuiomata Rd at around 9am on Thursday after a man was found unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard said the man's death was now being investigated as a homicide after initially being treated as unexplained.
"The young person has been charged with assault with a weapon, and enquiries are ongoing," he said.
"We would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident involving parties known to each other. There is not anticipated to be any risk to the wider public."
