Jacinda Ardern’s memoir adapted into children’s book

Titled What If You Could, the book is based on Ardern's 2025 memoir A Different Kind of Power and will be released in New Zealand and overseas on June 4.

Jacinda Ardern says she "couldn't be more excited" to release a children's edition of her recent memoir, adapted for younger readers.

Titled What If You Could, the book is based on Ardern's 2025 memoir A Different Kind of Power and will be released in New Zealand and overseas on June 4.

Publisher Penguin describes the adaptation as a guide encouraging young people to chase their dreams and embrace the unexpected qualities that make them strong.

Ardern announced the news on Instagram, saying she had always envisioned her memoir speaking to her teenage self.

"When I wrote my memoir, I told a friend that, in part, it was aimed at my 14-year-old self," she wrote.

"I never imagined having the chance to work with @rubyreadwrite and an incredible group of publishers to adapt it specifically for young people — but here it is."

She said it was "hard to believe" the book would be available in just two months.

What If You Could will be released with different covers internationally — red, white and blue in the United States, yellow and black in New Zealand and Australia, and orange in the United Kingdom.

"If I can convince just one young person in this chaotic and difficult world that they can make a difference just as they are," Ardern said, "then this book will have been worth creating."
