AT works to get Auckland trains running again after network failure

All trains halted in Auckland this morning.

Auckland Transport are working to restore train operations across the network following a "nationwide outage of the system used to safely manage train movements".

Earlier this morning, Auckland Transport (AT) released an alert to travellers to "expect delays and possible cancellations to services across the network due to a Network Control System Failure".

In an update at 11am, an AT spokesperson said all train services in Auckland were suspended shortly after 9am because of a nationwide outage of the system used to safely manage train movements.

"All train services in Auckland were suspended, which closed several of our major train stations until train services were able to resume from around 10.15am. Plans have commenced to restore train operations to timetabled schedules in preparation for an increase in services for the afternoon peak," they said.

Due to a network control system failure trains are temporarily suspended.

The spokesperson said many passengers were able to "quickly disembark their train at a station when this outage occurred", while others waited onboard until services were able to resume.

"While train services are being restored to their usual timetable we are encouraging passengers to catch one of the scheduled AT bus services that connect with our rail network. We are also working to organise alternative transport for parts of the network that have fewer bus connections, such as between Papakura and Pukekohe."

AT thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.

Earlier, signs at stations across the network displayed messages about the issue, and urged people to refer to the AT app.

A 1News reporter attempting to get to work by train this morning said there were "heaps of people waiting for Ubers" near Orakei.
