A police employee has been prosecuted after claiming around $29,000 for overtime hours they didn't work.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority said the sergeant responsible for checking timesheets was unaware the offender had not worked the hours, until they became suspicious of the how much overtime was being claimed.
"Police investigated and found sufficient evidence that the Authorised Officer had not worked the hours claimed in approximately 40 submitted timesheets," a summary read.
1News understands the employee involved was not a sworn officer.
They were prosecuted for obtaining by deception and are now awaiting sentencing, having resigned before police began an employment process.
The investigation also revealed procedural issues with how timesheets were reviewed and approved, with several adjustments made to reduce the risk of it happening again, the authority said.
"The Authority is satisfied with the thorough police investigations, and we agree with the outcomes."
