'Shirtless' and 'erratic' man charged with Auckland service station break-in

A man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into a petrol station in Auckland's Glen Eden early this morning and helped himself to food.

Police said they received a call at 2:30am that a business had been broken into, which set off an alarm and a fog canon.

A camea operator then tracked a shirtless man "acting in an erratic manner" who was eating food near the forecourt.

Inspector Nick Salter said upon the arrival of officers the man resisted arrest.

“He was subsequently OC sprayed, however he has then attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by a police dog".

The man, 35, appeared in Waitākere District Court today and has been charged with burglary and resisting police.
