Police chase offender over fences in 1km foot pursuit

The pursuit extended nearly a kilometer.

While carrying out a search warrant on suspects with possible links to the Headhunters Motorcycle Gang on Thursday, Auckland police were forced to chase down one offender on foot.

Detective Senior Sergeant Josh Lautogo said the warrant —which related to a burglary investigation— turned up a .22 semiautomatic cutdown rifle, a cannabis plant and a number of stolen items.

After these items were uncovered the suspect made his dash.

"One man was arrested without incident, but another fled the address on foot."

The chase spanned nearly a kilometre, crossing streets and fences before police caught the man.

"The man was searched, and methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found in his possession," Lautogo said.

In a significantly less demanding capture, a woman with a warrant out for her arrest arrived at the property during the search and was also detained.

Lautogo said a total of three people have been charged with burglary, firearms, drugs and warrant offences.

A 26-year-old man was charged with burglary, possession for supply of a cannabis plant and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

A 27-year-old man was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine utensils.

Finally, a 32-year-old woman was charged with failure to answer District Court bail.

All three are expected to appear in Waitākere District Court today.
