Both the Far North and Whangārei districts have issued a State of Emergency in response to severe weather affecting the region today.
The declarations, which last seven days, provide additional powers that enable emergency services and council staff to respond quickly and effectively as the situation evolves.

The Far North emergency declaration was announced jointly by EOC Controller, Alastair Wells and Mayor Moko Tepania, while the Whangārei declaration was made by EOC controller Victoria Harwood and Mayor Ken Couper.
Communities already isolated by road closures included Kaitāia, Kāeo Oakura, Whananaki and the Tutukaka Coast.
A red level heavy rain warning was put in place for parts of the region until 4am on Friday.
