Teacher hospitalised, student in custody after incident at Tuakau College

Tuakau College

A student has been taken into custody after an incident involving a teacher which prompted Tuakau College in north Waikato to be locked down this morning.

Counties Manukau CIB Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers said emergency services were called to the Buckland Rd school following a report of a person being injured just before 10am.

"Upon arrival a young person was quickly taken into custody," he said.

The victim has since been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Earlier, St John said one person had been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Vickers said officers were still making inquiries into exactly what has taken place, "however at this stage we can advise the incident involves a student and a teacher".

Tuakau College initiated its lockdown procedures following the incident, and this has now lifted.

"We can reassure the wider community that the matter is contained and there is no wider risk to students or the wider public.

The lockdown notice was lifted around 11.30am.
