Road closed after car found upside down in rural Wellington stream

Police were called to Mākara Rd about 8am following reports of a vehicle upside down in a body of water.

A road in rural Wellington is closed this morning after a car reportedly crashed into a stream.

Emergency services including Fire and Emergency New Zealand, police and Wellington Free Ambulance were called to Mākara Rd following reports of a vehicle upside down in a body of water shortly after 8am.

Inquiries at the scene were ongoing, police said, and the road was currently closed near South Makara Rd.

1News images from the scene on showed the road blocked off by police cars, with officers walking around the curve of the road.

Wellington Free Ambulance said it responded to the incident, and directed all inquiries to police as the lead agency.
