One person dies in fiery three-vehicle crash in Palmerston North

A vehicle of the New Zealand police has pulled over a vehicle for speeding in Cromwell in central Otago in the South Island.

One person has died after a fiery three-vehicle crash which injured three others in Palmerston North early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Tremaine Avenue, near Malden Street at around 2:30am, police said.

Senior Sergeant Christine Pinfold said police would like to hear from anyone who captured CCTV prior to the crash.

“We ask that people with CCTV in the area please review it and contact us if they have video showing two vehicles travelling down the avenue just before 2.30am.”

Police said the crash involved two cars, one which caught on fire, and a utility vehicle.

While one person died at the scene, another is in serious condition, and two others suffered minor injuries.

Police said inquires into the crash, which caused a power outage to a number of properties, are ongoing.
