A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash near Gisborne on Friday.
At the same time, police have released the name of the man who died in the crash that occurred at Waipaoa in the Matawai Rd area shorly before 7am.
He was 75-year-old Owen Rutherford Lloyd, from Whatatutu.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time," a police spokesperson said.
Police also appealed to the public for any information in relation to the crash, which may assist its investigation.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the Matawai Rd area between 6am and 7am on Friday, March 20.
The 29-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, and was due to appear in the Gisborne District Court today.
