A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting another person unknown to him at a Taranaki park on Saturday evening.
The victim was walking through the entrance near the closed Marire Home in King Edward Park in Stratford around 6pm when they were assaulted by a male, Detective Senior Sergeant Paula Drewery said.
"They suffered injuries that require hospital treatment."
Hato Hone St John also attended.
"Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Taranaki Base Hospital in a serious condition."
In an update on Monday, Drewery said a 23-year-old man would appear in the Hāwera District Court today on wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
"Police previously asked the public for assistance to locate the offender, following a person being found seriously assaulted by an unknown man at the park," she said.
She said the person injured was "thankfully recovering".
Drewery said police were grateful for public assistance, and said this was an isolated incident and there was no ongoing risk to the community.
