One person has been moderately injured following a boat explosion in Tauranga this afternoon.

Police said it received reports of a boat explosion at Tauranga Marina around 1.35pm Saturday.

Hato Hone St John said it responded with two ambulances and a manager.

"Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported in a moderate condition to Tauranga Hospital," a spokesperson said.
