'Beyond angry': Auckland councillor bitten by dog while protecting pet
An Auckland councillor says she was bitten by a dog when it tried to attack her pet shih tzu on a footpath yesterday.
Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward Councillor Josephine Bartley said the incident occurred while she was walking home from a bus stop with her aunty and beloved dog, Milo.
It prompted her to write a letter to the Local Government Minister, calling for reforms to New Zealand's dog laws.
'Our superhero': Northland four-year-old calls 111 after mum collapses
A 4-year-old Northland boy has been hailed a "hero" for alerting emergency services after his mother suffered a seizure and fell unconscious last month.
Asher Kessell dialled emergency services on February 27 after his mother, Rue, collapsed at their Matapouri home, about 36km northeast of Whangārei.
During the call, Asher told police communicator George Nichols: "My mum flake out. Mum need a doctor."
Hegseth says 'ungrateful' Europe should 'thank' Trump
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called America's European allies "ungrateful", saying they should be "thanking" President Donald Trump for going to war with Iran.
At a press conference at the Pentagon, Secretary Hegseth told reporters the US's allies should be more appreciative of America for attacking Iran.
He said the President was “doing the work of the free world”, calling Iran a "direct threat to America, to freedom and to civilisation".

ONE AUTHOR RECOGNISED
Beloved children’s author and illustrator Lynley Dodd says it feels "incredible" to be awarded the Fisher Funds New Zealand legacy award at the New Zealander of the Year Awards last night.
Speaking to Breakfast this morning, the Hairy Maclary author said the support was “a little bit overwhelming”, and she tried “not to think about it too much, otherwise [it’s] terrifying”.
