New Zealand Transport Agency is warning of congestion on Auckland's northern motorway this morning after a car flipped onto its side during a two-vehicle crash.

Police said it was called to the two-vehicle crash just after 6am.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it had two crews on the scene near the Onewa Rd exit on State Highway 1 southbound.

A crash has closed two lanes near the Onewa Rd exit.

A FENZ spokesperson said nobody was trapped in either vehicle.

St John said it sent one ambulance and one operations manager to the scene.

"We have three patients, two are in minor condition and one is in moderate condition," a St John spokesperson said.

The person in moderate condition was being transported to North Shore Hospital.

New Zealand Transport Agency said the lanes have since reopened, but urged people to "allow extra time while congestion eases".
