Disgraced ex-Scotland rugby star arrested on son’s birthday

TNT television Sport Rugby pundit Stuart Hogg looks on during the Gallagher Premiership Rugby match between Newcastle Falcons and Exeter Chiefs at Kingston Park on November 26, 2023 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Former Scotland rugby star Stuart Hogg has been arrested for a second time for allegedly harassing his ex-wife.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of abusing his then-estranged wife in 2024, and was sentenced to a "community payback order" — or community service — in January 2025.

Today, The Scottish Sun revealed he was re-arrested on February 12, 2026 after a complaint that he breached a non-harassment order involving his ex-wife.

Hogg has subsequently been accused of discussing personal matters on a co-parenting phone app, in breach of an order to only contact his ex-wife Gillian to discuss issues relating to their children, The Scottish Sun reported.

Scottish police confirmed to the BBC that a 33-year-man was arrested in the Hawick area of the Scottish Borders and released without charge.

In a statement posted on social media, Hogg said no criminal charges had been brought against him in relation to "recent matters that have been reported in the media".

He added: "I have cooperated with the authorities and will continue to respect the legal process.

"The truth of the situation will come through the proper legal channels rather than speculation.

"I am first and foremost a father and a professional rugby player. My focus remains on my children, my career and moving forward."

Hogg and his ex-wife share four children, and he has another son - who turned one the day he was arrested - with another former partner, according to The Scottish Sun.

The original offending took place over a five-year period, prosecutors said.

Following the incident, Hogg was stripped of his Member of the British Empire, or MBE honour he had been awarded in December 2023 for his services to the sport.

At the time, King Charles ||| announced the award was now "cancelled and annulled".

The fullback retired from professional rugby in 2023 shortly after reaching 100 appearances for Scotland. He had been named captain in 2020.
