Scooter rider critically injured in crash with vehicle in Auckland

A scooter rider has been critically injured in a crash involving a vehicle in central Auckland this morning.

Police said the crash involving a vehicle and scooter occurred at the intersection of Mayoral Drive and Cook Street at 7am.

"The scooter rider is currently in a critical condition, and is being transported to hospital," a police spokesperson said.

Cordons were in place and motorists were urged to avoid the area, if possible.

"Those cordons are in place on Mayoral Drive near the intersections with Greys Avenue and Cook Street, as well as at the intersection with Hobson and Cook Streets," police said.

The serious crash unit was on the way to the scene to complete an examination and crash investigation.

St John said it sent one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle to the scene.

"One patient was assessed at the scene by the ambulance crew and was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition," a St John spokesperson said.
