A Kiwi author says she was “stunned” when she found out Meghan Markle had posted her book to Instagram.
The book, They Bloom Because of You, is a collection of poems on motherhood and was published by Canterbury-based author Jessica Urlichs this month.
Yesterday, Markle posted a video flipping through the pages of the book, several of which had been folded, including one poem about marriage titled Vows I Didn’t Write. In the video, Markle said it was "so good".
Urlichs told 1News shortly after Markle posted about the book to her Instagram story, she received multiple shares of the post from followers.
“At first I thought it couldn’t possibly be her account. It didn’t feel real.”
She said it was “probably about 10 minutes” after Markle’s post when she found out.
“I was stunned, and I did a little happy dance. I just feel honoured, for one that she read it of course, but also that she loved it enough to share it with her following.
“That means so much to me, I’m hoping a lot more mums will feel supported by my book now too.”
Urlichs said since her book had been shared by Markle, who lives in California with husband Prince Harry and their two children, it has seen a rise in interest overseas.
“It’s definitely been climbing the charts, especially in Australia, UK and US.”

When Urlichs posted her own video showing Markle had shared her book, Markle left a comment to again show her appreciation.
"My mom friend, Christina, shared it with me. My current bedside book,” Markle said.
"From one mama to another - thank you x."
Urlichs said she was “so grateful” her book was reaching mothers around the world.
“I just never imagined it would be The Duchess of Sussex! A big achievement for a Kiwi mum who never knew she would one day publish a book even though it was always a dream.”
