Former radio broadcaster Polly Gillespie says her car is “screwed” after a recent late-night crash.
Gillespie spelt out the details of the crash on her social media account, saying it was her fault and revealing it has left her in financial difficulty as she wasn't insured.
She had been on her way back from a New World store in Wellington when a car came the other way at speed, she said, and prompted her to swerve into a parked car.
In the social media post, Gillespie said: “Tonight coming back from the supermarket I wrote off my car.”
Describing the incident, Gillespie said she was coming up a narrow hill after getting “luncheon sausage and Freddos” when a four-wheel drive vehicle "hurtled down".
“Stupidly I went straight/turned in to parked car. The poor folks I plowed in to were so lovely but my wee car is screwed.”
Gillespie said “foolishly” her insurance “has lapsed” and said the incident “was my fault”.

“I should have not expected the 4WD would stop, but seriously. Not sure how I’m going to pay for all this, but strongly considering OnlyFans. (Yeah right. Who’d pay?) Or starting a window washing.
“If only I was dating a panel beater!!! Do you think I could manifest that?”
She then asked a "higher power" for help: “I know I am a wee bit of a walking disaster. I’ve made some gumby choices. I eat too many carbs. I have made terrible choices with men. I eat way too many Milky Bars. I’m awful at saving money!"
“But please send me to a super lovely crash repairs/panel beater. I will literally sell my soul to them.”
Gillespie was previously the co-host of The Polly and Grant Show between 2001 and 2020 and a columnist for Woman's Day New Zealand.
In 2021, she released an autobiography titled The Misadventures of Polly Gillespie: Reports from a Riotous Life.
