Three men have been charged with murder in relation to a suspected gang-related shooting in Christchurch.

Police were called to a house on Hoani St in Northcote on February 19, where a gun was fired during an altercation.

Robert Haimona died in hospital eight days after the incident.

The trio – aged 19, 31 and 40 – appeared at the Christchurch District Court via video link, where they blew kisses, pulled gang signs, and shouted expletives to friends and family sitting in the public gallery.

Name suppression was sought by the men’s lawyers and the basis of fair trial rights until at least their first appearance at the High Court.

The Crown did not oppose the suppression applications.

The men have been remanded in custody until April 1.
