State Highway 1 is closed at Domett - between Christchurch and Kaikōura - due to a crash this morning.
The New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi website said the road had been closed since 10.56am between Leader Road East and Scargill Valley Road.
“Avoid the area or consider delaying your journey,” said a NZTA spokesperson.
A detour is available using State Highway 7 and Inland Route 70.
“Allow extra 60-90 minutes for detour.

“Please note this route is not suitable for heavy vehicles.”
Police said it was called to the scene on Domett Road at about 10.45am after a report of a four vehicle crash.
The serious crash unit had been advised.
