Two charged with murder of Gisborne man

A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Maangi, and a 28-year-old man has been charged with party to murder.

Two men have been charged in relation to the murder of Bill Maangi in Gisborne last year.

Maangi, 36, was found critically injured on the front lawn of a property between Lytton Rd and Riperata St around 4am on September 29 after he was shot. He died in hospital shortly afterwards.

Police had arrested four people in relation to the homicide in December, and today announced further charges had been laid against two of those people.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Maangi, and a 28-year-old man has been charged with being party to murder.

Detective Inspector Marty James thanked all involved in the investigation.

"While this does not change the devastating loss that Mr Maangi’s family are coping with, I hope that holding these people to account will bring them some sort of closure."

Both men were due to appear in Gisborne District Court on March 27.
