Police dive squad joins search for missing boatie on Lake Manapouri

The police dive squad are assisting in the search for a boatie who fell overboard in a Fiordland lake yesterday.

Police were notified of a person falling overboard from a vessel on Lake Manapouri at around 6.15pm on Saturday.

Sergeant Alun Griffiths said the vessel located was around 1km offshore at the time of the incident.

"An initial search last night was unsuccessful and later paused at around 10pm," he said.

The Police National Dive Squad were currently assisting with search efforts.

Lake Manapouri is the country's second deepest lake.
