Footage has captured the moment a dog was rescued from a vehicle stuck in raging floodwaters in Australia's Northern Territory.

The 50kg German Shepherd was bundled into a chopper hovering above the vehicle by a police officer outside the town of Katherine.

A mum and young son were also rescued from the vehicle.

"Everything just seemed to have aligned in this case," Northern Territory police officer Ben Parfitt told Channel 9.

Hero bush pilot John Armstrong was humble following the daring rescue.

"Yeah, that's not that hard, eh? If you take the river out of the picture, it's just like landing a chopper anywhere."
