Cook Strait ferry out of action with fault

The Interislander ferry Kaiārahi

Ferry operator Interislander has apologised for ongoing service disruptions, with one of its two ferries now berthed for repairs for the rest of the week.

The Kaiārahi reportedly suffered a technical fault last Saturday.

Interislander today said all of its sailings have been cancelled till Sunday as a precaution, following identification of the cause of an intermittent technical fault.

A replacement part is expected to arrive tomorrow, the operator said in a service alert.

"It will then be installed and tested and we anticipate Kaiārahi returning to service by the end of the weekend."

"We’re very sorry for the ongoing disruption this issue has caused to our customers."

Affected customers are being contacted directly and offered alternative sailings.

March is typically one of Interislander's peak months for demand and its says capacity is very limited.
