Cemetery workers near Wellington were left to clean up melted and loose rubber after a series of burnouts at the Whenua Tapu cemetery yesterday afternoon.
“This is the worst burnout damage we have seen here,” said the cemetery manager Daniel Chrisp in a statement on Porirua City Council's Facebook page.
"As kaitiaki of our loved ones, we're all heart broken by this behaviour. Whenua Tapu is your cemetery, an urupa, a sacred place to remember your loved ones. Burnouts have no place within any cemetery grounds."

In their statement, Porirua City Council also said that staff had spent the morning scrubbing the driveways and cleaning up from the incident.
According to the council, CCTV cameras captured clear images of those responsible, and that that information has been passed on to the police.
