One person has died after a crash between a bus and a car on State Highway 1, just north of Tūrangi this afternoon.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said crews were alerted to the crash involving a car and bus near Rawhira Rd shortly after 1pm today.
Two crews from Taupō and one from Tūrangi attended the scene, FENZ said.
Police said the road remained closed and diversions were in place around the western side of Lake Taupō.

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said SH1 is closed between the intersection with SH41 and the intersection with Lake Terrace due to the crash.
"It is expected to be closed for some time. Delay travel or allow extra time for a detour," a spokesperson said.
