A 16-year-old girl's birthday party in Sydney went horribly wrong when around 500 teenagers turned up uninvited, prompting a police response that ended with three arrests and a helicopter deployed to disperse the crowd.

Emergency services were called to a home in the suburb of Kirrawee at around 7.15pm on Friday.

Local police tried to disperse the gathering, but reinforcements were called, including riot squad officers and the police helicopter unit, which worked for over an hour to manage the party.

Police arrested three 16-year-old boys before releasing them without charge pending further inquiries.

One of the boys allegedly threw a full can of alcohol at an officer, who deployed capsicum spray before arresting him.

“During the arrest police will further allege that the boy resisted officers,” NSW Police said in a statement.

CCTV footage obtained by Nine News showed crowds of teenagers surrounding the home before the situation escalated.

Neighbours said they were left shaken by what unfolded and many young children watched the chaos unfold on their doorsteps.

"There were a few people climbing over their neighbours fence here to get in and out of the party," neighbour Aedan Byrne told 9News.

One witness told Nine that she saw multiple people arrested.

"It was very chaotic," she said.
