Emergency services were called to Paparoa in the Kaipara District just after 12.35am on Saturday after a vehicle had gone down a bank and into a stream on Paparoa Valley Rd.

One occupant died at the scene despite CPR from a member of the public, while a second person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The road was cleared about 6.30am.

Later, around 9.40am on Saturday, police responded to a single‑motorcycle crash on Foxton Shannon Rd in Horowhenua.

"Sadly, the rider died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

The road has since reopened.

Both crashes remained under investigation.
