Two arrested, gun seized after shooting in Auckland's Papakura

Armed police at Grove Rd in the Auckland suburb of Papakura.

Two people have been arrested and an illegally held firearm recovered following a shooting in Auckland's Papakura on Saturday.

Police heard gunshots while conducting patrols in the Clevedon Rd area at around 11.20am and came across a man with a gunshot injury shortly after.

The man was taken to hospital in a moderate condition and had since been discharged.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor said a 23-year-old man and 47-year-old woman had been charged jointly with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a restricted weapon.

"The male has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Papakura District Court on March 26 and the female will reappear on March 16," he said.

Initial indications were that the victim and offenders were known to each other, he added.

"There is no risk to the wider community."

Police and the armed offenders squad had also carried out inquiries at a Grove Rd address on Saturday but no arrests were made at the time.
