Person critical after falling as far as 15m from cliff onto rocks

A person has been critically injured after falling 10-15m from a cliff onto a rocky bank in Auckland's Waitākere Ranges today.

The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew were called to the scene in Whatipū, about an hour's drive west of downtown Auckland.

Rescuers carried out a "complex winch extrication" to collect one person, a spokesperson said.

The patient was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.
