Popular deals site GrabOne has relaunched under new Kiwi ownership, nearly a year after the platform went into liquidation.
Wellington-based holding company Paradigm Group announced today it has bought GrabOne and is bringing the website back online.
The site – which offered users deals on experiences, products and travel – officially relaunched today.
Paradigm Group chief executive Jonty Hodge said the website's closure last year had impacted both businesses and customers.
"When GrabOne went into liquidation, it wasn't just a platform shutting down. Real merchants lost a channel that was genuinely working for them, and over 350,000 kiwis lost a way to discover what's on their doorstep," Hodge said.
"For some of these businesses, GrabOne was generating millions in revenue. We couldn't just watch that disappear."
GrabOne was bought by Australian company Click Frenzy in 2021, who later went into liquidation, resulting in GrabOne shutting down last year.
The website was used by more than 350,000 Kiwis and over 1000 businesses prior to its closure.
Under the new ownership, Hodge said the company will focus on helping small and medium-sized businesses attract new customers and encourage repeat trade, with a new merchant portal and faster payment systems part of the relaunch. More than 30 Wellington-based businesses have signed up — including Dockside Restaurant & Bar, Vivo Hair Salon and Brewtown.
Former GrabOne staff have also returned to the platform, including head of GrabOne Paul Raeburn, who said the relaunch was about rebuilding the brand.
"Last year’s liquidation marked the end of one chapter, but we always knew the platform still had so much to offer Aotearoa," Raeburn said.
“Speaking to merchants, it’s clear that there were parts of GrabOne that weren’t working, but the platform still helped businesses reach new customers and optimise inventory.
"Looking forward, we’re moving away from the clutter of the past to bring GrabOne back to its core roots."
