US, Israel pound Iran as Middle East conflict widens
The US and Israel have unleashed a spate of attacks on Iran, launching a major military operation on the country which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian state officials said more than more than 200 people have been killed in the strikes, including dozens at a girl's school.
Tehran fired missiles at Israel and Gulf Arab states in a counteroffensive that the US military said resulted in the deaths of three service members — the first known American casualties from the conflict.
Oil prices have risen sharply, and international travel has been plunged into chaos as a result of the ongoing conflict.
Tyres on three Auckland ambulances deliberately slashed
St John says it is disappointed by the disrespect shown after three ambulances had tyres slashed in Auckland's Manukau over the weekend.
Senior Sergeant Roelof Burger said Counties Manukau police investigating the wilful damage believed the offenders entered the gated yard of St John's Manukau Station on the corner of Plunket Ave and Wiri Station Rd on Saturday night.
"While in the yard, the offenders have punctured five tyres on three vehicles using a sharp object, rendering them inoperable," he said.
Police officer accused of kidnapping ex-wife avoids disciplinary action, keeps job
The police watchdog has criticised police for not disciplining an officer who allegedly kidnapped his ex-wife.
The IPCA released a summary of a police investigation into the officer, which centred on allegations the officer possessed child exploitation material and committed family harm against both his ex-wife and ex-partner.
"The investigation did find that there was sufficient evidence to charge the officer with kidnapping, assaulting and threatening his ex-wife," it said.
Watch: Donald Trump’s new threat to Iran as US-Israeli attacks intensify
Iran says hundreds of civilians have been killed since the assault on the region began over the weekend.
