Fire crews are working to extinguish a house fire in Whanganui which has sent smoke billowing across the city this morning.
Fire and Emergency NZ said it was notified of the blaze on Puriri St at 11.54pm and sent two trucks from Whanganui.
Witness Shivam Mendiratta told 1News he noticed smoke coming from the property before 12pm, with flames becoming visible shortly after.
"Emergency services, including police, Whanganui collision units, and fire crews, arrived promptly," he said.
"From what I could see, they responded quickly. I sincerely hope everyone is safe."
