One left critical after Auckland CBD assault, knife recovered

A knife was recovered by police after a "serious assault" in Auckland's CBD last night that left one person in a critical condition.

Police were called to Lorne Street, outside Auckland's Central City Library, at around 10.20pm.

"One person reportedly sustained critical injuries and is now stable," Detective Senior Sergeant Ash Matthews said.

"Another person received serious injuries."

A knife was recovered at the scene.

A 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was due to appear in the Auckland District Court today on two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Cordons remained in place this morning, and a scene examination would be carried out.
