A man has been injured following a shooting in the Auckland suburb of Papakura this morning.
Officers were carrying out patrols in the Clevedon Rd area when they heard what they believed to be gunshots around 11.20am, a police spokesperson said.
A short time later, police "came across a man with a gunshot injury".
St John said they were called to the scene at 11.24am, responding with two ambulances, a rapid response unit and a manager.
"Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Middlemore Hospital in a moderate condition," a St John spokesperson said.
Police and the armed offenders squad carried out inquiries at a Grove Rd address but no arrests were made.
"We are following strong lines of enquiry in relation to the people allegedly involved in this incident. Initial indications are that the victim and the offenders are known to each other and there is no risk to the wider community," police said.
Cordons in place around Grove Rd have since been lifted.
"We thank all those residents impacted by the cordons for their patience and cooperation."
Residents of Clevedon Rd and Grove Rd could expect to see a continued police presence this evening as officers continue to investigate.
The police Eagle helicopter was circling the area this morning.
