Man arrested over Cannons Creek shooting

A man has been arrested over a shooting in Porirua last week that saw a school locked down and a person taken to hospital.

Police were called to Dido Pl in Cannons Creek at around 7.40am on Friday, February 20, after reports of gunshots.

A person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Porirua College went into lockdown and asked students and staff not already at school to stay home.

Today, police said a 22-year-old man was arrested over the incident.

He was due to appear in Porirua District Court today, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm with a firearm, and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

"Police would like to reassure the public that they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident," Kāpiti Mana Area Commander Inspector Renée Perkins said.
