Man accused of smashing window at Peters' home named

Marcel Stephenson is charged with smashing a window at Winston Peter's Auckland home.

Name suppression for a man charged with smashing Foreign Minister Winston Peters' window has lapsed, and he can now be named.

Marcel Stephenson, 29, will go on trial charged with burglary on September 28.

He has pleaded not guilty, and the trial was expected to last three days.

Stephenson was arrested after handing himself into police following the alleged incident at Peter's St Mary’s Bay home at about 5.40pm on October 6, 2025.

At his last appearance on February 4, Stephenson indicated he would appeal for continued name suppression. He had 21 days to do so, and that time had since passed.

The incident occurred after protestors gathered outside the NZ First leader's home following an interception by Israeli forces of a flotilla of activists heading to Gaza carrying symbolic aid.

Stephenson's lawyer, Jonathan Hudson, previously told Stuff his client had not been part of the protest activity.

At the time of the incident, Peters condemned what had happened as "truly gutless".

He was not home at the time, but his dog and partner were.
