Eight people have been injured, one critically, in a crash involving a truck and a van north-west of Napier this morning.
St John said it had one helicopter and four ambulances at the scene on Puketitiri Rd in Rissington.
A spokesperson said one patient was in critical condition, one in serious condition and six other patients in conditions ranging from minor to moderate.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it responded to the crash at around 6.25am.
A spokesperson said nobody was trapped.
Police said the road was closed, and urged motorists to delay travel if possible.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised, a police spokesperson said.
