A woman fell between a retaining wall and earthworks while allegedly robbing a property in Auckland this morning – with her cries for help eventually getting the attention of police.

Senior Sergeant Shaun Richardson said officers were called after residents on Richmond Rd in Grey Lynn reported hearing a woman "calling for help" from nearby Westmoreland St West around 2.30am.

"Police and ambulance attended the area and eventually located a woman stuck at a property under renovation; she had fallen between a retaining wall and earthworks."

Officers at the scene were told a burglary had occurred at the address.

Richardson said the woman was allegedly in possession of a handbag which had been stolen hours earlier in another suburb at Epsom.

"Just before midnight, an offender had allegedly entered a house and stolen a handbag and keys, before driving off in a late model Audi hatchback," he said.

A 31-year-old woman was taken to hospital for her injuries.

She was due to have a bedside court hearing today charged with two counts of burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Police were opposing the woman’s bail.
