'Imaginary income' lands family $4000 Working for Families bill

A New Zealander who has left for Australia says he's been hit hard by Inland Revenue "annualising" his income to claw back Working for Families credits.

Kenneth said he moved with his family from Auckland to Australia in January last year when the IRD demanded he pay $4000 in Working for Families tax credits-money.

"My total New Zealand earnings for that tax year were just under $84,000. However, the IRD has annualised my income, claiming I should be treated as if I earned closer to $110,000," he said.

Christopher Luxon says NZ would back removing Andrew from line of succession

New Zealand will back a plan to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the order of succession if it is proposed by the UK Government, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says.

In a statement today, a spokesperson for Luxon said: “If the UK Government proposes to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the order of succession, New Zealand would support it.

"The UK Government has said any proposals would come after the police investigation concludes," the spokesperson added.

Human remains found in search for kidnapped Sydney grandad

Human remains have been found by detectives investigating the mistaken kidnapping of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian.

Baghsarian, 85, was kidnapped from his North Ryde property early on February 13 when three men stormed the home and bundled him into an SUV.

Police repeatedly told the kidnappers they had taken the wrong person and publicly urged them to release the elderly man, who relied on daily medication.
