Man charged with indecent assaults on teacher and students

The man was taken into custody after an incident outside a North Shore school last week, with detectives linking him to earlier reports involving high school students.

A man has been arrested on Auckland's North Shore over alleged indecent assaults against high school students and a staff member in recent months.

Police said the staff member was on duty on the afternoon of February 16 outside a school.

Relieving Waitematā East area commander Mike Rickards said the man allegedly indecently assaulted the teacher before she confronted him.

"The alarm has been raised when other teachers saw this confrontation and immediately contacted 111."

Officers responded and arrested a 64-year-old man in the Milford area and he was subsequently charged with doing an indecent act.

Rickards said the arrest resulted in inquiries into similar incidents in November last year.

"An extensive investigation was carried out to identify a man who had allegedly carried out similar behaviour, directed towards several high school students on the same day."

While the inquiries had been unable to locate the man responsible at the time, detectives this week laid two additional indecent assault charges against this man.

An assault charge was also laid over a separate incident involving an elderly woman at St Lukes, also in November 2025.

Rickards acknowledged the school community and said students had done the right thing by reporting the "awful events" in November.

"This information informed the school network so, on Monday, staff sprang into action."

The 64-year-old man has appeared in the North Shore District Court and would be reappearing on new charges on February 27.
