Greymouth pair 'very shaken' after violent home invasion

Reid St in the Greymouth suburb of Blaketown.

Two Greymouth residents are 'very shaken' up after an home invasion by a man with a dirty face who assaulted one of the occupants at the weekend.

Police received a call to the Blaketown address at 11.15pm on Saturday.

The report said a man had entered an address on Reid St and assaulted one of the occupants, before being confronted by another and leaving.

The victim had sustained minor injuries, and the pair were “understandably very shaken” by the incident, said acting detective Senior Sergeant Brent Lyford.

Police have conducted initial inquiries, including assessing available CCTV footage, and were seeking public assistance.

“The man is described to be in his 40s, Caucasian, and of medium build,” Lyford said.

He was also reported to be wearing a black short sleeved rugby-type top and long pants, with short dark hair.

Lyford said his face was also described as dirty.

Police asked anyone who had seen the man matching the description or any suspicious behaviour in the Reid St or immediate areas on Saturday to get in contact.

Information could be provided via 105 by phone or online.
