Critical injuries after collision between cyclist and car in Christchurch

A person is in critical condition after a collision between a cyclist and car in Christchurch this evening.

Police said it received reports of the crash near the intersection Sumnervale Drive and Evans Pass Road in the suburb of Sumner at around 5.30pm on Sunday.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said it was alerted at 5.32pm, and responded with one ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and an operations manager.

One person was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.

Evans Pass Road was closed, with traffic management being arranged. Motorists have been asked to avoid the area.

The serious crash unit had also been notified.
