A former Gisborne deputy mayor has been appointed the new president of Boxing New Zealand.
Josh Wharehinga replaces Cathy Meehan, who stood down earlier this month.
It follows an investigation by 1News which uncovered a Sport Integrity Commission investigation into Boxing New Zealand and its head coach Billy Meehan.

The commission is investigating the organisation after complaints that include bullying, favouritism, drunken behaviour and inappropriate comments.
Cathy Meehan said after nine months in the role as president she decided to step down to focus on supporting her husband and her family "during this challenging time".
"I will continue to respect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and will cooperate fully with all necessary processes so that the truth may be uncovered," she said.
Wharehinga, who is also a boxing referee and judge, served four terms on Gisborne’s council and stepped away from local government earlier this year to "concentrate on his business interests and reinvigorating boxing in Tairāwhiti".
Boxing New Zealand still would not comment on the Sport Integrity Commission investigation or Billy Meehan, who remains head coach.
