Reserve Bank holds official cash rate at 2.25%

The official cash rate has been held at 2.25%, the Reserve Bank has announced this afternoon.

This was in line with what economists and the financial markets expected from today's 2pm call.

The decision is the first monetary policy statement of the year — a more detailed release than a standard review — meaning the bank's updated economic forecasts and language around inflation and employment will be closely parsed by analysts and homeowners alike.

A woman who died after she was attacked by three dogs in Northland yesterday has been formally named by police.

Earlier today, Cabinet minister Shane Jones said he wanted a “very severe level of punishment” for owners of what he called “homicidal dogs”.
