'Taking our time' - NZ Rugby's search for new chief executive continues

NZ Rugby chairman David Kirk speaks to the media after the dismissal of All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson.

New Zealand Rugby has confirmed the appointment of two executives but its painstaking search for a new chief executive continues.

The organisation today announced the appointments of Chris Kinraid as chief financial officer and Chris Brown as chief commercial officer, with NZ Rugby chairman David Kirk saying both roles attracted “high-quality” candidates from New Zealand and abroad.

Brown is a former executive at McDonald’s Australia, while Kinraid is a former chief executive of Hallenstein Glasson Holdings Limited.

However, the quest to replace former chief executive Mark Robinson is proving more difficult, with Kirk saying interim CEO Steve Lancaster, a former Crusaders lock who was previously working at the organisation as the manager of New Zealand’s community game, will continue in the role for the foreseeable future. Robinson resigned in June last year.

In the absence of a regular CEO, Kirk, a former All Blacks captain, has been increasingly visible as the head of the organisation and fronted the media after Scott Robertson's dismissal as All Blacks head coach was announced in January.

“The board is taking our time to make the right appointment,” Kirk said.

“Steve is doing an excellent job leading NZR through a period of transition. His understanding of the game, from community to high performance, is highly valued. He has the board’s full support as he continues in the role.”

Along with a chief executive and All Blacks head coach, NZ Rugby is also on the hunt for a new high performance manager after Mike Anthony's departure.
