In photos: Wild weather lashes lower North Island

Tens of thousands are without power as a deep low off the east coast of the North Island brings heavy rain and severe gales to large parts of the country.

States of Emergency remained in place for the Manawatū Whanganui region, as well as the Waipā and Ōtorohanga districts, with homes evacuated in the Manawatū District and on the coast of the Tararua District due to rising river levels.
